flowers for mom

I adore traditions.  Since becoming a mom myself there's 1 tradition I'm especially fond of.  On my birthday I give my mom flowers.  Chosing flowers for her each year is a pleasure.

This year is pure white and a hint of green flowers that are mom's favourite:  mini carnations.  She says carnations are dependable, long lasting and pretty.  Giving flowers to my mom not only tells her I love and appreciate her, but reminds me how much I love being a mother myself.

For the first time I also bought some for myself.  Buying myself flowers that I won't plant was such a hoot and novelty for me.  An indulgence I think I'll add to the annual tradition of getting flowers for mom.   Usually cut flowers are only enjoyed when they're seasonal to cut from our garden.  On a dreary, wet and raining day like today daisies are a really nice pick-me-up.

Do you have any non-typical traditionals you enjoy?  I'd love to hear what they are and maybe I can incorporate some new ones for myself.  Be happy, be well, stay dry!  Renee

What a nice thing! I have sent flowers to my husband's mom on his birthday before - she liked that! We have a cake for Jesus's birthday on Christmas Eve. I take the day off of work on my own birthday to just enjoy ME! :)

What a lovely and thoughtful tradition! I love daisies too - especially the ones with white petals and dark blue centers. You are so right, we all need to indulge occasionally and treat ourselves to fresh flowers to brighten our day!

Seeing that it's almost Easter I enjoy a tradition of baking Easter cookies. Not the sugar cookie variety but the kind with currents and more akin to shortbread. This year I'm going to try a new recipe that I just found tonight.

What a wonderful idea! I may just have to start that tradition myself.

That is a very sweet idea.

Hmm...our traditions? Every month on the 4th Hubby and I tell each other "Happy Monthly Anniversary." We also celebrate our first date by going back to the same restaurant chain and ordering the same meal.

I so love your flowers; I have to admit I buy flowers every week. With our extremely short summers here in Calgary, I would hardly ever have flowers if I only cut them from the garden. Flowers cheer me up in the dead of winter when it's too cold to go anywhere. These are beautiful photos.

What a wonderful tradition. In our family, we celebrate "Mexican Christmas Eve". When the kids were little, my sister-in-law bought a pinata to keep them entertained on Christmas Eve. They loved it and so a non-traditional tradition was born.
